How to get involved

What is this campaign?

First, having fun.
Second, giving your battles a bit of a narrative background (even if you don't follow any of the campaign scenarios) means that at least you have an excuse to push your models around the table knowing your gaming input will have an effect on the bigger picture somewhere. Every game really does count.

When does it start?

Campaign starts Sunday 5th August 2007
Last games on Sunday 16th September 2007.

What is the background story?

It is not easy to outrun Imperial Navy patrols or marauding Astartes Rapid Strike Cruisers and to illustrate the point the commandeered Navy frigate had finally payed the price for it's solitary three-year dash by tearing itself to bits, the escape pods ejecting just as the plasma drives finally overloaded in a show of pyrotechnics that would keep the feeble-minded amused for years. On a more practical level, hopefully the explosion masked the descent of the escape pods to planet [xxxx] surface which was a positive development, the negative, the rapid drop out of Warp Space was bound to attract unwanted attention.

Inquisitor Itol Veck assessed the situation grimly. Two squads of barely battle-worthy Inquisitorial Storm Troopers and his personal retinue of Acolytes, Warriors, Sages were hardly an army but they would have to do. Aware that the relic he had in his possession was worth more than the price of a planets' population should anyone be able to use its powers, Veck reasoned that he just needed to hide out somewhere in this Imperial backwater while the search for him, obfuscated by rumour and counter-rumour, moved on elsewhere.

Then the ultimate power would be his to use. Years of mental fortitude and great physical hardship endured hunting down this object had led Veck into areas and allegiances that few of the Imperium would dare to follow. He had himself long since been branded a Heretical Radical, a tag he relished and lived up to. He had plans to harness the unfathomable Empyrean as tool for his own devices, as a weapon to realise his ambitions – either way he could not afford the Astartes getting involved at this critical juncture.

This was his time.

Your Mission

The forces of the Astartes have been mobilised, as have the Imperial Navy and the great mass of the Imperial Guard. Thus as a commander of the Astartes the race is on to find and capture Veck before he can bring his plans to fruition. Capture this arcane and mysterious object, don't allow Veck to master it. If captured alive, Veck's subsequent interrogation could yield a network of symapathisers and allies that will be invaluable in the fight to preserve and extend the Imperium, and, his knowledge of the workings of this device could bring limitless opportunities to those who unlock it.

Your success in this mission will raise the both honour of your Chapter and your personal stature as a commander to heights never before attained. For the Dark Angels and the Unforgiven it could spell a major step forward on the path to redemption. But be wary, as rumours of strife and schisms within the Astartes (and beyond) abound – different Chapters have their own agendas and strange alliances are being forged in this mission.

By the same token if this relic falls into xeno clutches it could bring untold trouble for the Imperium of Man – even hasten it's eventual demise. Details are sketchy, but given the unbridled access and dominance to the Warp this instrument would yield many disparate races are thought to be in on the chase for Inqusitor Veck, desperate for the advantages to be gained.
