RSS feed help

What are RSS feeds?

News feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as its published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. These feeds are just a list of itmes, each item containg a headline, a description and a link to the item's web page. Essentially the feeds themselves are just web pages, designed to be read by computers rather than people.

How do I start using feeds?

thedarkfortress now publishes an RSS feed in the RSS 2.0 format.

Readers can view the content of the RSS feeds using specialist news readers, either on the desktop or online, which allow feeds to be viewed from multiple sources.

To view RSS feeds you will need an RSS aggregator, more commonly referred to as a 'reader'. The reader checks the feeds you are subscribed to and displays any new content. This means you don't have to check individual websites for updates - the reader does it for you. Typically a reader will automatically check for new content every hour.

In order to use our RSS feed follow these two steps:

Step one
Download or sign-up to a news reader service. You can Download Feedreader 3 here, this is a free RSS aggregator. For free online RSS aggregators, sign-up to Rojo, Bloglines or Google Reader. There are many other RSS readers available.

Step two
Click on thedarkfortress feed – the orange logo on the +HEADQUARTERS page. Copy the address from your browser window. Use this address to view the feed using your chosen reader.

That's it.
