Grey Knights as allies:
Building into DA army lists
5th Edition
Note: This tactica is now old and needs an update. Many facts will not be correct for current game. However the general gist is pitched right.
With the new Codex DA the old No Allies rule has gone. So why not take advantage of the new opportunities available to us. This Tactica goes some way to explaining why this mysterious secretive Chapter can work so well with our secretive mysterious Chapter.
This tactica has been recently updated to cover both the 5th Edition 40K Rulebook and Codex Space armies.
Here are some useful set ups for your GK heroes and GKTs. Where possible all of these build examples have been made up (or down) to the nearest 5 points to hopefully dovetail neatly into the Dark Angel Codex point system.
Remember we are not here to hone Grey Knight units/heroes into the best they can be but into the most advantageous as DA Allies. Where possible I have added wargear options to that end, so psychic hoods and psycannons abound. This acts as a useful force-multiplier.
This carries on from the previous tactica:
Grey Knights as allies: Weapons, wargear and psychic powers.
The Grand Master
If you aren't facing Chaos opposition then remove the Sacred Incense. Teleport homers are useful additions if you intend deep striking, otherwise remove. In each case the GM becomes 10 points cheaper.
Grand Master with GK Terminator retinue
GM: storm bolter/nemesis, psychic hood, psycannon, sacred incense.
Terminator retinue (4): 1 x psycannon/nemesis, 2 x storm bolter/nemesis,
1 x storm shield/thunder hammer.
Total cost 414
The lone Grand Master for attaching to a Deathwing squad
GM: storm bolter/nemesis, psychic hood, sacred incense, teleport homer 185 GM: storm bolter/nemesis, psychic hood, psycannon, sacred incense, teleport homer 215
The Brother-Captain
The Brother-Captain: If fielded alone or with a GKT squad retinue his loadout is basically the same: a Psychic Hood and a Psycannon for a total of 121 points. If points are tight and he is part of a GKT squad then drop his psycannon. It really is that Ld10 hood you are after here!! Remember the BC can be put into either an HQ slot (with or without retinue), or, as part of a Grey Knights termy squad in an Elites slot so freeing up the second HQ slot.

Conclusion
These three GK tacticas serve to show how Grey Knights can really add a little extra scope to our Unforgiven forces on the table-top. Take from them what you will, but they are a very neat fit with the DA Codex if you pick and choose units and wargear carefully.
The real disadvantage in 5th Edition is that the best unit — the Grey Knight Terminators — are not point-scoring. This is admittedly a big downturn to that of their input within the 4th Edition game, which is a great shame.
Having said that, the Grey Knight Grand Master is still a close-combat monster that can Deathwing Assault with a Deathwing unit so swings and roundabouts I suppose.
Thanks for reading and have fun with the GK.
