Cypher and Fallen by Broken Paintbrush
With no current game rules to use it's unusual to see Cypher, let alone an accompanying warband, being fielded and an army. Nevertheless they remain intriguing subjects for painters.
Let's get one thing out of the way: these accompanying Fallen should be wearing Dark Angel's Legion black power armour rather than the green of the post-Heresy era. Cypher is quite rightly represented in his green armour. Perhaps like their leader, these Fallen warband are trying to obfuscate their true provenance.
That aside just enjoy what Broken Paintbrush has done with these models. Using classic metal Dark Angel models with parts from the DA Veteran sprue and from the Space Marine Command squad sprue has resulted in a distinctly characterful unit with a mix of both Chaos and Imperial weaponry and ornamentaion.
Cypher himself is a great model with bags of personality brandishing his two pistols. And his hooded face is brilliantly sculpted.
Cypher was a great character in 3rd Edition Chaos that was mysteriously phased out in the following Codex which really is a shame.

That individualism has carried across to how they've been painted. Very gritty, dirty and bloodied. The application of blood to the DA icons signifies their defacing. Apart from the splattered gore, the most distinctive feature on all these models is the shaded brownish robes that are far cry from the more usual pristine bone white worn by their loyalist ex-brothers. The clearly visible roughly applied paintbrush strokes are perfect for these Fallen and give them a very forlorn appearance.
So thanks to PB for putting this lot together for a bit of a trip down memory lane. You can see more cool painting and sculpting projects on the Broken Paintbrush blog.
